    Brigid’s Day Imbolg Celebration at Butler Gallery

    🌱Imbolg Block Printing with Artist Michelle McMahon and the Brat Bríde Project at 1-3pm
    🎼WOL Collective Performance at 2pm and 3pm.

    Join us on Saturday 1st February to celebrate the first of Spring, Imbolg and the Celtic goddess Brigid.
    Create your own block print with Imbolg themed stamps, female deities and spring biodiversity plants on a piece of fabric to create a Brat Bríde to take home.

    Traditionally, a Brat Bríde was a piece of cloth, usually red or white, that was left outside the house on Brigid's Eve to collect dew. The Brat was then believed to have curative powers, particularly against ailments throughout the year, like headaches and earaches.

    We will have fabric at the Learning Centre to print on - or you can bring your own piece of cloth, t-shirt or tote bag to up-cycle with Michelle's Imbolg themed block print stamps.

    Please note that capacity at any one time is 8 persons for block-printing.

    Basket Weaving Course with Heike Kahle

    Join us for a 3 week Basket Weaving Course with expert weaver Heike Kahle. Heike will introduce participants to the art of basket making in Ireland and around the world, and to the different weaving patterns, tools and materials used and how to grow and prepare willow.

    Over the course of 3 workshops, participants will be expertly guided in making their own basket, from the base of the basket, to staking up the sides and weaving the first rounds. You will have the opportunity to explore different weaving techniques for the side of the basket using different varieties of willow. Finishing with the construction of the rim of the basket and adding a handle.

    Participants will complete the course with a beautiful basket to take home.

    Celebrate St. Patrick’s weekend in a truly special way with a creative and mindful macramé workshop! As Kilkenny comes alive with parades, music, and celebrations, take a break from the crowds and enjoy some hands-on crafting fun with family and friends.

    This event will be hosted by two of us—Andrea will be guiding the adults in creating a beautiful macramé art piece, while the wonderful and talented Claire will be entertaining the children with face painting and hair wooling. Everything will take place in the same hall, allowing for a shared experience while also creating a relaxing, mindful space for adults to enjoy their creative time.

    After the workshop, unwind with a warm cup of tea or coffee and some tasty treats, soaking up the festive spirit in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Children will investigate flows, ripples, mirroring and working within Art and Theatre disciplines.

    Drag and Draw – Life Drawing with Drag Performers

    Drag & Draw is an art class with a difference! We host life-drawing sessions with drag queens as models, so it's essentially half art class and half drag show. The class is made up of various different fast and slow-paced drawing exercises, incorporating lip-syncs and audience interaction. This is an informal event, very suitable for life-drawing beginners. It will also challenge experienced artists by providing, not your typical life-drawing model, for you to draw – think more sass!
